Abstract
Obesity is induced when an LD50 of goldthioglucose is administered to mice. Goldthiomalate and sodiumthioglucose are not effective. The food intake and O2 consumption of the obese mice are greater than that of the nonobese controls; spontaneous activities are similar. The development of this type of obesity is accelerated on a high fat diet, inhibited on a high protein diet. Findings are contrasted with the results obtained from genetically obese mice to illustrate the multiple etiology of obesity. Keywords
