Abstract
It is argued that neither spin observables in electron-deuteron scattering nor form factors can serve as an unambiguous testing ground of predictions of perturbative QCD in the momentum-transfer region of a few GeV/c. The calculations based on nucleon and -isobar degrees of freedom give results similar to those of perturbative QCD. The influence of isobars on the short-range behavior of the nucleon components of the deuteron wave function is stressed.
