Abstract
The Anisotropy of the Magnetic Properties of Plastically Deformed Nickel Single Crystals Anisotropy and dependence on the resolved flow stress T of the coercive force, the magnetization, the susceptibility and the magnetic phase volumes were investigated on (111)- and (101)-oriented discs prepared from plastically deformed Ni single crystals (primary glide plane (111), primary Burgers vector bpr=1/2[101], deformation temperature T=78°k). Plastic deformation into the transition region to the stage II work-hardening leads to a deformation-induced anisotropy which is superimposed on the crystal anisotropy of the undeformed crystal and which can be attributed mainly to primary edge dislocations. The results obtained for specimens deformed into stage II are compatible with a dislocation structure consisting mainly of 60° dislocations and Loraer-Cottrell dislocations forming dislocation groups arranged in layers parallel to the primary glide plane. Measurements of the susceptibility in the approach to saturation enable an estimate to be made for the lower limit of the number of dislocations in a pile-up. The number varies from 13 to 15. Furthermore, from these measurements the amplitude τ i of the internal stresses due to the dislocation groups may be estimated as lying in the region 0·5τ < τ< i < τ.Keywords
