Abstract
On the basis of records in the Youth Bureau of the Detroit Police Department, a comparison was made between 141 boys with records of arrest for drunkenness and 955 boys contacted by police on other complaints. In addition, comparisons were made between 73 girls involved in drinking with 1081 whose police records made no mention of drinking. Differences were noted linked to age; there was some indication of weak inner resources, but otherwise the boys and girls charged with drinking were similar to delinquents in general. The supplementary follow-up study of 96 boys whose juvenile police records included notation of being drunk indicated that, as young adults, 10% had police records including arrests either for being drunk or committing crimes when drunk. Keywords
