Abstract
A normal coordinate analysis of the out‐of‐plane modes of vinyl bromide shows that the description of the 943 cm—1 and 583 cm—1 modes given by Torkington is not entirely correct. The 943 cm—1 mode has a close resemblance to the ethylene type twist and the 583 cm—1 mode may be easily visualized as a wagging motion of the whole vinyl group. A comparison is also made with C2H3D and trans‐C2H2D2.Keywords
