Abstract
Summary Typical pyrogen induced fever occurs under conditions in which increased heat production due to activity of skeletal muscles is not possible. Under these conditions the mechanism of the pyrogenic reaction is one of sudden and marked reduction of heat loss. The slight increase in heat production under these conditions is correlated with the rise in temperature and is assumed to be a consequence rather than a cause of the fever. Keywords
