Abstract
Of 194 specimens obtained from 92 patients with malignancies, six strains of Cryptococcus neoformans, two strains of Cryptococcus albidus, 40 strains of Candida albicans, and 17 strains of unidentified Candida species were isolated. None of the patients with malignancies from whom C neoformans was isolated showed a clinical manifestation of cryptococcosis. Singer's liquid urea medium was found superior to Christensen's urea agar for demonstration of urease activity of C neoformans. Keywords
