Abstract
The rate of moisture removal from alpha lactose hydrate when submitted to the toluol distillation method of moisture detn. follows the unimolecular kinetics expression image The effect of particle size has been studied as has the distillation rate. The rate varies with particle size in accordance with the equation kd = 0.565, where k is the rate constant in min.-1 and d is the diam. of the particle in [mu]. The rate of distillation has some influence on the velocity of dehydration of lactose monohydrate, but above a distillation rate of 6 ml. per min. Further increase in distillation rate has no effect on rate of dehydration. Keywords
