Abstract
The aminoalditol glucamine was transformed into N-alkylated derivatives and also into ammonium salts of various organic acids. Studies of the liquid-crystalline properties revealed a series of novel smectic and discotic mesophases. Rules generally applicable to the occurrence of the various phases are presented. Keywords
