Abstract
Rapid modulation of infrared radiation in the 10‐μ wavelength region has been achieved by operating a thin‐film Pb1−xSnxTe optical shutter. The switching mechanism considered here takes advantage of the rapid absorption edge shift induced by an intense incident optical pump. Experimental evidence suggests the possibility of producing picosecond infrared transients. Keywords
