Some Features of the Single Separable Potential with Attraction and Repulsion

The separable but nonlocal potential recently introduced by Tabakin has an unfamiliar feature in that the repulsion, introduced to secure a negative phase shift, lends itself to increasing the two-body binding energy. This is illustrated by considering the specific case of the $S$-wave $\alpha -\alpha$ interaction.
