Abstract
In an attempt to calculate the contributions to the electric field gradient in close-packed metals from all charge outside the central Wigner-Seitz cell, lattice sums over screened ions were performed using a Thomas-Fermi and a Hartree screened potential. The volume and structure dependence of these lattice sums is examined and compared to experimental observations. The role of lattice vibrations is also discussed. Keywords
