Abstract
Representation has been made of synchronous machines and power systems by α-, ß-, and 0-networks which are basic for the analysis of various types of short circuits. New expressions for the characteristic synchronous machine reactances in α-, ß-, 0-components, or Clarke components, are derived. It is found that these characteristic reactances are constant so that the use of Clarke component networks does not compare unfavorably with other methods of short-circuit analysis. Keywords
