Abstract
Sera having pro- and antigonadotrophic effects were developed in rabbits by injn. of sheep pituitary extracts over prolonged but varying periods of time. Sera obtained from different rabbits at various intervals vary greatly in their ability to produce these effects. Fractions showing gonadotrophic inhibiting and augmenting activities were separated from certain sera which were obtained at different times after the beginning of the immunization period. Progonadotrophic activity appears first and usually in the early part of the immunization period. When strongly inhibiting sera are fractionated, the major portions of the antibody (antigonadotrophin) appear in the fraction which contains the major part of the gamma-globulins. The progonadotrophic and antigonadotrophic effects may be due to the level of antibody in the serum and serum fractions when they are assayed. Keywords
