Abstract
Caries is a disease of multifactorial etiology and pathogenesis for which a single preventive measure will seldom succeed in preventing it entirely. The provision of the most effective caries-preventive advice and treatment for an individual patient must be tailored to that individual''s needs and resources. The procedure usually involves 3 stages: accurate diagnosis of the more important factors influencing the caries susceptibility of that patient, choice of measures most suitable for that patient to reduce predisposing conditions or increase protective factors and instruction and motivation of the patient. Keywords
