Abstract
The articles by Prochazka et al.1 and Baisch et al.2 in this issue of the Journal present information on associations of HLA alleles with disease. Prochazka et al. argue that it is one of the several linked loci of HLA that is most important in determining a patient's susceptibility to primary sclerosing cholangitis because an allele at that locus shows the highest association with the disease as measured by relative risk. Baisch et al. use allele-specific oligomer analysis of DNA sequences to define HLA polymorphisms related to particular amino acids to identify the most important associations between HLA and insulin-dependent . . .Keywords
