Abstract
Bacteriostatic and bactericidal activities of mandelamine, streptomycin and sulfathiazole against microorganisms freshly isolated from urinary tract infections were studied. Sterile urine was used as a culture medium. It was found that the activities of the 3 drugs are not widely different. Organisms developed resistance to sulfathiazole and streptomycin rapidly and to a remarkable degree. In contrast with these results, resistance to mandelamine did not appear at all. Organisms rendered resistant to sulfathiazole or streptomycin retained full susceptibility to mandelamine. Keywords
