Seasonal variation in libido of rams

Abstract
Six Romney and six Cheviot rams aged 2½ -3 ½ years were penned and their libido tested in April and August 1974 and February 1975. The libido of rams tended to be lower in August and February than in April, with significant differences in all libido characteristics except time to first mount. Despite these differences all rams achieved at least one service during each series of tests. It was concluded that ram libido is unlikly to limit an out-of-season breeding programme.
