Abstract
This discussion points out: that detergent residues are a minor part of the total or gross pollution; that in drinking water, the levels of detergent residues measured as ABS (alkyl benzene sulfonate) are almost always below the limit set in the PHS Drinking Water Standards; that detergent residues are unlikely to build up to troublesome levels in the foreseeable future in our raw and potable water supplies; that there is a wealth of evidence to assure that ABS is not a public health problem. Keywords
