Abstract
Utilizing 1 g. creatine by the oral route it was shown that normal males show a serum creatine tolerance curve differing from that in the female in that fasting levels are at or below 0.6 mg.%, and after 135 or 180 min. concns. have fallen to or below 1 mg.%. Points taken at shorter intervals (30, 45 or 60 mins.) revealed no specific differences between the sexes (all subjects were adults). In 12 of 13 hyperthyroid males before therapy the tolerance curves had female characteristics in that some fasting levels exceeded 0.6 mg.%, and the 135 or 180 min. values exceeded the normal range. In 7 of 8 individuals in whom hyperthyroidism was suspected and ruled out on laboratory or clinical grounds, the creatine tolerance pattern conformed to that seen in normals. No significant changes in creatinine were observed. Keywords
