Abstract
The natural occurrence of free allohydroxy-L-proline is reported for the first time. A detailed account is given of its isolation from the leaves of sandal (Santalum album). The substance was isolated in crystalline form by radial ("circular") paper chromatography, chromatography on columns of cellulose powder and of basic copper carbonate-alumina, following a previous partial separation from other amino acids by ion-exchange chromatography. The isolated amino acid was identified as allohydroxy-L-proline by. numerous chemical and physical criteria. Keywords
