Abstract
In several series of experiments nas was introduced into the buccal pouch or esophagus of Syrian hamsters or applied to the dorsal skin. In 1 series nas was administered to 6 consecutive generations of hamsters. No tumors appeared at the site of administration, although changes appeared in the mucosa of the buccal pouch and esophagus. Tumors in organs remote from the application site developed only in those series in which nas was introduced into the buccal pouch. The most common site of tumorigenesis was the liver, followed by the adrenal glands, the forestomach and the genital organs. Tumors occurred in 17.6% of experimental animals compared with 3.5% of controls. This publication has 12 references indexed in Scilit:
