Effect of Alcohol Ingestion on Experimental Chicken Atherosclerosis

Abstract
The use of alcohol is common enough to be a noteworthy item in attempts to elucidate the role of external factors in atherogenesis. Because valid observations on this point are made only with difficulty in man, the effect of continuous alcohol ingestion on atherosclerosis in chickens was studied. It appeared that alcohol caused a significant elevation of the plasma cholesterol and phospholipid levels, but was without effect on aortic and coronary atherosclerosis, either spontaneous or induced.
