Abstract
The expansion of frequency allocation to the high-frequency ranges decided at WARC'79 has brought active development in millimeter-wave equipment. The development of new communication systems and new compound semiconductors have brought progress to the technology for high-frequency circuits and devices. We started the development of automotive radar using millimeter waves in the early 1970s, and have applied them experimentally for use in headway control. We are now studying new ways to use automotive radar taking into account the new technology in circuits and devices. This paper discusses the automotive radar we developed and outlines the problems that must be solved before practical use can be achieved. Keywords
