Abstract
Biologic PropertiesSeveral of the plasma glycoproteins demonstrate specific binding properties, being responsible for the transport of such materials as copper (ceruloplasmin), iron (transferrin), hemoglobin (haptoglobin) and thyroxine (thyroxine-binding protein).Other functions of plasma glycoproteins include the participation of prothrombin and fibrinogen in the clotting process and the role of both the 7S and 19S gamma globulins as antibodies. The biologic function of the glycoprotein hormones and thyroglobulin are well known. The glycoproteins of various mucous secretions have a major role in raising the viscosity of these fluids, which in turn have a lubricating and protective role. Some glycoproteins have . . .Keywords
