Abstract
Rabbit antisera to purified preparations of sheep luteinizing hormone and follicle-stimulating hormone were prepared and tested immunologically for specific and cross-reacting antibodies. Utilizing the ovarian ascorbic acid depletion response to LH in the immature, pseudopregnant rat, the capacity of these antisera to biologically inactivate purified LH was determined. It was shown by incubation studies in vitro that a titration of the level of antibodies against LH could be achieved with a small amount of antiserum. In addition, it was found that the antiserum to LH, when given as a single intraperitoneal injection prior to the injection of LH by tail vein, would effectively block the ovarian ascorbic acid depleting activity of purified LH.
