Abstract
Oral administration of insulin preps, to 55 mice consistently and reproducibly produced hypoglycemic coma or convulsions within 2 hrs. after administration. The oral dose observed for undigested insulin hydrochloride was about 90 times its subcutan. dose. The oral dose observed for digested insulin was 45 times its subcutan. dose. Fe salts increased the effectiveness of insulin and digests of insulin when administered orally. The observations suggest qualitative similarities between thyroglobulin and insulin with respect to the action of proteolytic enzymes. This publication has 2 references indexed in Scilit:
