Abstract
A new combination, Hebe brevifolia, is made for the taxon first described as Veronica speciosa var. brevifolia and later treated by Moore in 1961 as Hebe macrocarpa var. brevifolia. Hebe brevifolia is an ultramafic endemic, distinguished from H. macrocarpa var. macrocarpa by its smaller stature and decumbent habit, lanceolate-elliptic to oblanceolate or rarely obovate leaves, large crimson widely spaced flowers borne on long pedicels, and chromosome number. The conservation status of Hebe brevifolia is discussed.
