PARTIAL INHIBITION BY LITHIUM OF THE EPINEPHRINE-STIMULATED RISE IN PLASMA CYCLIC-GMP IN HUMANS

Abstract
Li-treated and drug-free individuals were given 0.5 mg epinephrine s.c. and blood samples withdrawn for measurement of plasma cyclic[c]AMP and cGMP. The rise in plasma cGMP in response to epinephrine was partially inhibited by Li treatment and previous reports of Li inhibition of the plasma cAMP rise were replicated. Effects of Li on cAMP and cGMP may relate to Li biphasic efficacy in depression and mania.
