Abstract
A mathematical model is presented which describes the behavior of fluid jets escaping microchannels. Channels with non-circular cross-sections serve as basis for the model. The application of the model to defined geometrical shapes or orifices leads to a deflection of the liquid jets from the axis of the channel. Experimental testings on a micropumping system confirm the results. At orifices with triangular cross-section areas of about 1750 mu m deflections of up to 85 degrees were observed, these being dependent on the streaming velocity. Keywords
