THE DETERMINATION OF ALBUMIN IN HUMAN BLOOD PLASMA AND SERUM. A METHOD BASED ON THE INTERACTION OF ALBUMIN WITH AN ANIONIC DYE—2-(4′-HYDROXYBENZENEAZO) BENZOIC ACID 12

Abstract
A new and simple method was developed for the quantitative measurement of albumin in human blood plasma or serum. The method, dependent upon the shift in the absorption spectrum of an anionic dye[long dash]2-(4[image]-hydroxybenzeneazo) benzoic acid[long dash]produced by the selective binding of the dye by serum or plasma albumin under specified conditions, was devised for use in the Beckman model DU spectrophotometer and in the Evelyn photoelectric colorimeter, but can be modified for use with other instruments.
