Abstract
A tight-binding model in one dimension with heirarchical potential strength is investigated. The problem is reduced to recursion relations for characteristic polynomials, for a renormalization-group transformation, and for traces of transfer matrices. On this basis, we elucidate the energy spectrum, the nature of the wave functions, and the resistance. Keywords
