On J/psi Production in Nuclear Collisions

Abstract

Experimental data indicate that the J/psi multiplicity in both p+A interactions and Pb+Pb collisions is approximately proportional to the pion multiplicity. This seems to contradict the generaly accepeted picture of heavy quark production based on perturbative QCD.
