Abstract
A detailed study of above-threshold ionization processes in xenon and krypton is reported. Using well-characterized pulses of 1.06- and 0.532-μm radiation under carefully controlled experimental conditions, measurements of the energy and direction of photoelectrons from Xe and Kr as a function of laser power and polarization were made. Conclusions about the role of ponderomotive potentials in the determination of much of the phenomenology are presented. Keywords
