Abstract
In a previous paper (1956) the authors reported upon an apparatus with which aortography could be followed immediately by films of the whole arterial tree and of both lower limbs simultaneously, both in the early and late phases of filling. The shortcomings of the equipment described were noted, together with suggestions for improving its efficiency. This paper describes the machine evolved. A tubular steel frame mounted on rubber wheels supports the leg film changer which is in the form of a flat box. The changer is slid into position just above the radiographic table top, from the foot end, the tubular steel legs clearing the sides of the table. Two screw-down hand locks secure the apparatus in position by engaging in the longitudinal grooves down each side of the radiographic table. A third lock is positioned at the foot of the apparatus. Rollers are provided at suitable points on the changer to allow the table to bear the combined weight of changer and patient. The changer proper consists essentially of: (a) A central Perspex-covered radiographic area. This projects at the head end of the changer by 10 in. The projection in the square framework surrounds the pelvic film lying in the Bucky tray under the table and allows a pelvic exposure to be made without a radio-opaque bar appearing across the film as in our previously described apparatus.
