Abstract
In this article the author discusses the need for a reexamination and expansion of the research domain of scholars and practitioners in the field of production/operations management (P/OM). The author notes that while many organizational sociologist accept the idea that P/OM tools are dependent upon organizational design, the actual evidence for this is not very strong. He suggests researching the reverse of this view, noting that many organizations design themselves around a core technology that is known to work and then hire people and pursue markets based on this design. Keywords
