Abstract
Chemical modification of ribosomes from Escherichia coli by oxidation in the presence of selected photosensitizing dyes causes a rapid loss of their amino acid-incorporating ability. By comparing the efficiency of dyes that sensitize the photooxidation of either guanine in ribonucleic acid or amino acid residues in proteins, inactivation of one or more functional ribosomal proteins is inferred. Keywords
