Modelling mechanical wear processes in metallic sliding friction

Abstract
A novel wear test is decribed in which a hard tool steel wedge is pressed against the periphery of a bar of softer metal rotating in a lathe. The results obtained are used to investigate the roles of low cycle fatigue and ratchetting failure in producing wear.Keywords
