Abstract
We study a simple model which contains the basic physics of the image-potential problem but which allows a nearly exact solution. The predictions of this numerical solution are compared to those of various approximate theories that have been recently proposed. We find no support for the suggested anomalies; conventional image-potential theory appears to be adequate. Keywords
