Abstract
Determination of pseudocholin-esterase by the use of the selective substrates, butyrylcholine or ben-zoylcholine, leads to high results when acetylcholinesterase is present in excess (as in rat brain). The determination of pseudocholinesterase with butyrylcholine as substrate is improved by using in addition a selective inhibitor, "62C47", for acetylcholinesterase. Similarly, the determination of acetylcholinesterase in the presence of excess of pseudocholinesterase could be improved by using a selective inhibitor, Lysivane methosulfate, for pseudocholinesterase. Activities of acetyl-and pseudo-cholinesterases of rat brain are not significantly altered by post-mortem perfusion.
