Abstract
A HYPOPARATHYROID subject acquired resistance to the effects of parathyroid extract (parathyroid, U.S.P.) during treatment. Resistance developed in association with specific antibody detected as gamma globulin with affinity for binding 131I-labeled parathyroid hormone in soluble complexes. The findings are presented below.Case ReportA.S. (04–75–11), a 39-year-old woman, first noted thyroid enlargement in 1946. In 1954, the thyroid gland began to increase further in size; she became nervous, and lost 4.5 kg. (10 pounds) in weight. A subtotal thyroidectomy was performed in February, 1955; on the 3d or 4th postoperative day she complained of tingling of the lips and . . .Keywords
