Abstract
Cortisone acetate, 4 mg./day subcut., was given to intact and DCA-maintained adrenalectomized male adult rats for 28 days. All rats received a diet containing 1.2 mg. of 1/100 g. of food. The thyroid I131 uptake in normal rats treated with cortisone and in adrenalectomized rats maintained with DCA was not changed. Adrenalectomized rats maintained with DCA and treated with cortisone showed diminished I131 uptake. No differences in the proportions of thyroxine, mono- and diiodotyrosine, and inorganic I fractions in thyroid tissue were 9463-9474 ENDOCRINE SYSTEM [Vol. 27] 880 seen. Adrenalectomized rats maintained with DCA and treated with cortisone, showed also a diminished excretion of I131 in the urine and feces during the 48 hrs. following the I131 injn. (the other groups showed no difference from normal) and an increased l131 concn. in blood, at least during the 1st 12 hrs. following l131 injn. Keywords
