Abstract
The influence of several growth hormone preparations on adrenal corticosteroid secretion was studied in isolated perfused adrenal pouches prepared in hypophysectomized dogs. 17-Hydroxycorticoid secretion was unaffected by direct perfusion of bovine growth hormone. On the other hand, human growth hormone, HGH-Merck, effected a dose-related inhibition of 17-hydroxycorticoid secretion but did not modify responses to sub?sequent ACTH administration. HGH-Condliffe produced a dose-related stimulation of 17-hydroxycorticoid secretion at 10, 100 and 1000 m[mu]g/ml concentrations. Furthermore, HGH-Rabenwas also stimulatory but only at 1000 mjj[mu]g/ml dose, resulting in increased 17-hydroxycorticoid, corticosterone and aldosterone secretion. These results suggest that these human growth human preparations may contain varying amounts of adrenal cortical stimulatory and/or in?hibitory substances. This publication has 7 references indexed in Scilit:
