Dopamine Uptake and Release: Effects of Imipramine on the Pedal Ganglion of a Freshwater Pelecypod (Quadrula Pustulosa)

Abstract
1) Exposure of pedal ganglia to the tricyclic antidepressant imipramine lowered the total endogenous dopamine concentration by 27 %. 2) Field-stimulation of pedal ganglia labelled with 3H-dopamine caused release of the amine. 3) Release of 3H-dopamine from field-stimulated pedal ganglia may be potentiated by imipramine. 4) Newly accumulated 3H-dopamine mixes with the unlabeled endogenous dopamine in the ganglion and is not preferentially released.
