Abstract
Cerebral blood flow was studied in a series of 5 hypertensive subjects and one normotensive subject before and after administration of hydralazine. Subsequent to intravenous administration of hydralazine (average dose = 0.25 nig/kg) there was a simultaneous increase in pulse rate and a decrease in blodd pressure, whereas cerebral vascular resistance decreased and cerebral blood flow increased. The arteriovenous oxygen difference across the brain narrowed, and cerebral oxygen consumption was maintained unchanged. The changed found in this investigation fit with previous studies indicating that hydralazine produces a decrease in peripheral resistance accompanied by increased cardiac output as well as increased renal, hepatic, and coronary blood flow. Keywords
