Control of Diarrhea in Secondary Hypogammaglobulinemia by Fresh Plasma Infusions

Abstract
DIARRHEA frequently occurs in patients with hypogammaglobulinemia,1 2 3 4 but the relation between gamma-globulin deficiency and the ecology and function of the intestine is complex and unresolved. The occurrence of diarrhea with IgA globulin deficiency5 , 6 and the predominance of IgA globulin containing plasma cells in the lamina propria of the small intestine7 8 9 suggest that IgA globulin may have a significant role in maintaining the normal flora of the small intestine. This case report describes a patient with chronic lymphatic leukemia, whose diarrhea followed the development of hypogammaglobulinemia.
