Abstract
Using a cubic type high-pressure apparatus and synchrotron radiation (SR), x-ray diffraction measurements for liquid bismuth have been carried out at pressures to 7.3 GPa. Structure of liquid bismuth shows an obvious difference between one at pressures below 4.7 GPa and one at 7.3 GPa. Below 4.7 GPa, structure of liquid bismuth is not as similar to the atmospheric-pressure solid phase as it is to the higher-pressure solid phases even at atmospheric pressure. At 7.3 GPa, liquid bismuth yields a simple, less anisotropic structure. Keywords
