Abstract
The cystine excretion of 50 normal subjects was detd. by the method described by Medes and Padis, [see B. A. 11(3) entry 5757]. The 24 hour output averaged 30.4 [plus or minus]1.5 mg. There was a correlation of +0.46 [plus or minus]0.07 between excretions of cystine and neutral S and of +0.65 [plus or minus]0.05 between urinary cystine and creatinine. No significant correlation was found between cystine excretion and body weight or output of total N. The output of cystine by a single subject varied from an av. of 1.11 mg. per hr. on a low protein diet to 1.52 mg. per hr. on a high protein diet. Differences between individuals were greater than variations in a single subject on different diets. This publication has 3 references indexed in Scilit:
