Abstract
Effects of cocaine on the respiration of yeast and of mammalian tissues with various substrates were investigated. The effects of cocaine on citrate synthesis, pyruvate degradation and acetylating systems were investigated. Evidence is presented that cocaine inhibits cellular respiration by blocking the entry of active acetate into the tricarboxylic acid cycle. Keywords
