Abstract
Microbial Interactions Resulting in Facilitated Colonization of Potential HostsAlthough polymicrobial infections occur with regularity in immunosuppressed patients, the combination of Pneumocystis carinii and cytomegalovirus infections occurs much more frequently in these patients than one would expect to see by chance alone.78 , 79 Of the many hypotheses that have been proposed to explain this association, a recent proposal is particularly intriguing.79 Cytomegalovirus-like bodies have been observed within P. carinii in patients with combined pneumocystis and cytomegalovirus pneumonia, leading to speculation that in patients with dual infections the parasitized pneumocystis might act as a vector for cytomegalovirus or, alternatively that the patient . . .This publication has 24 references indexed in Scilit:
